Bahamas: Austrian diver dies of his injuries after shark attack
Last weekend, during a routine dive with the safari boat M/V Shear Water (belonging to the US company Jim Abernethy's Scuba Adventures (JASA)), an Austrian diver was bitten by a shark during baiting. Despite efforts to save him taken at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, he died of his injuries. My deepest condolences to the diver's family.
This is a terrible blow for “shark tourism”, which can indirectly protect sharks. Paying tourists want to see and photograph living sharks.
Every diver who dives with sharks must always remain aware that the shark is a predator in its natural habitat in the wild, and has a very strong hunting instinct.
