Shinjuku, Shibuya and Asakusa

I waited for my guide in the lobby of the Park Hyatt Tokyo Hotels, and enjoyed the pleasant ambience. After greeting each other, we discussed the next days’ tours with typical Japanese politeness.

We started our tour with a walk in Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, which used to be an imperial garden and later contained an agricultural experimental installation. The Shinjuku Gyoen consists of different sized gardens with a rich variety of plants, which can hardly be found in Tokio. The European Garden is just as worth visiting as the Japanese Garden. Further to Yojogi Park with its Meiji Jingu Shrine. There I was allowed to photograph a traditional Japanese wedding couple. At the exit - Harajuku Station – I saw a lot of young people wearing funny costumes - Cosplay. It was cold, but the kids ignored the temperature with their skimpy costumes :-)

Afterwards we went through the streets of Shibuya - though I was not able to note all the details of this district. We then took an underground train to the Asakusa district. In the Asahi breweries building we had a short break in the top-floor café, which had a wonderful view of the city around.

I was then shown so many shops that I soon had enough :-) But one shop - Fukui Asahido - must be really special, as even the American President George Bush has been to it. The shop has hand-made articles in the Japanese style.

On the way back to my hotel – not far from the Park Hyatt Tokyo – my guide showed me a street where some of the Hollywood film Last in Translation with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson was filmed.

I finished the evening in the New York Grill Restaurant – high up in the Park Hyatt Hotel with a wonderful view over Tokyo at night. It was difficult to make photographs, as the restaurant was full and I was not allowed (and did not want to) photograph the guests.
