Short-finned pilot whale, dead sperm whale and a swarm of Mahi Mahi
The first days on the ocean by the Azores island of Pico have gone very well for me, and I was able quickly to get back into my usual work routine ;-) No time lost to bad weather and late luggage!
I was able to photograph a small group of short-finned pilot whales underwater, now I have pictures of short-finned and long-finned pilot whales in my portfolio. The short-finned pilot whales were not as friendly as their long-finned cousins that I was able to photograph in the same place in April this year, so I had to swim further from the boat to reach the animals, and dive deeper. After a few attempts the animals understand the procedure, and it becomes almost impossible to get more pictures.
We discovered a dead sperm whale and a large swarm of "Mahi Mahi" - dolphin fish under the sperm whale carcass from our boat. It was not easy to photograph the Mahi Mahi, as the swarm divided itself whenever I swam towards it.
